global engineering solutions
Carver Engineering Access & Safety Solutions can design, supply, install and maintain all types of Guardrails to suit your application.
We use whichever manufacturers products will be best for your project be it new build or retrofitting. Manufacturers Guardrail systems include KeeGuard, KeeClamp, XS Platforms, Trad, AKF, AKM, Tractel.
Guardrails are installed around or along locations to prevent persons from reaching a fall hazard.
Within the Guidelines of the Work at Height Regulations 2005: -
Every employer, in selecting work equipment for use in work at height, shall give “collective protection” measures priority over “personal protection” measures.
Guardrails offer “collective protection” and systems such as safety lines and harnesses offer “personal protection”.
Therefore, a Guardrail system that is installed around an entire roof edge ensures that the whole roof is safe and that persons can freely move within the perimeter and work without any other form of fall protection or specialist training.
There are several different kinds of Guardrails that suit different types of roofs and parapets and these are: -
Freestanding Guardrails are a modular free-standing counterweighted rooftop system which does not penetrate the roof membrane, thereby reducing the risk of water ingress.
The system works on a proven counterweight system with secure bases that are placed on top of the roof surface weatherproofing membrane etc.
The system offers maximum flexibility for most rooftop configurations, almost any flat roof up to 10 degrees pitch can be accommodated, and it can be designed to avoid roof plant and equipment such as air conditioning units and ventilation systems, and also accommodate changes in different roof height levels.
A Guardrail system can also incorporate Steps, Safety Gates and Ladder Access Points.
The Guardrail system uses galvanised steel fittings and tubes and is also available in lightweight aluminium materials.
Mild steel Guardrail systems can also be supplied in polyester powder coated finish to a RAL colour of your choice.

Top Fix Guardrails
Top Fix roof Guardrails are a permanent roof safety system fixed into the roof or other structure such as a parapet wall or steelwork.
The Top Fix roof Guardrail system secures onto the roof / structure using either a rivet / resin / mechanical anchor fixing system and can be installed on roofs with up to 5 degree pitch’s.
Top Fix Guardrail is supplied in galvanised steel or aluminium materials and can be powder coated to a RAL colour of your choice.

Side Fix Guardrails
Side Fix roof Guardrails are a permanent roof safety system fixed into the roof edge or other structure such as a parapet wall or steelwork.
The Side Fix roof Guardrail system secures onto the roof edge structure using either a rivet / resin / mechanical anchor fixing system and can be installed on roofs with up to 5 degree pitch’s.
Side Fix Guardrail is supplied in galvanised steel or aluminium materials and can be powder coated to a RAL colour of your choice.

Standing Seam & Metal Roof Guardrails
The specially designed powder coated base plate, which incorporates multiple fixing centres, allows installation to a wide range of popular roofs particularly metal profile and standing seam roofs. Being an ‘off the shelf’ product, specification is simpler, and it also removes the need to fabricate a different solution for each site, minimising site visits and down time.
Base plates for standing seam roofs are fixed using non-penetrative 2-part clamps and metal profile roofs are fixed with minimal penetrations using rivets and butyl sealing strip to maintain the roof’s integrity.
Available in galvanised steel or aluminium materials.
On buildings where Guardrails are the edge protection of choice, but perhaps due to planning permission it is not desirable to have Guardrails permanently visible on the roofline of the building, then folding Guardrails are an ideal solution.
Designed for use on slopes up to 10 degrees, this folding system is suitable for use on asphalt, concrete, mineral felt or PVC sheet covered roofs and complies with the requirements of EN 13374 & 14122.
Utilising a hinged version of the standard KeeGuard® base fitting, the guardrail can easily be lifted into place when work is in progress and then quickly folded back down when finished.
Folding Guardrails offer all the flexibility of standard Guardrails allowing continuous runs, fixed ends, corners, changes in direction etc, or can be installed in 6m sections with ‘D’ returns to enable it to be folded quickly and simply.
A simple locking pin is all that needs to be removed from the fitting to allow it to pivot.
